PwC and the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee

PwC Russia has been providing professional services to the Organizing Committee of the XXII Winter Olympic Games and XI Winter Paralympic Games of 2014 in Sochi since late 2008. We are proud that our team has won the right to be the Official Professional Services Provider and Partner to the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee.

PwC and the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee have carried out over 200 projects in planning, preparation and staging of the Games. Over 70 consultants from the PwC global network along with our own Russian experts pooled their expertise together across in various areas. Their experience in advising major global sporting events will make sure that the Olympic Games in Sochi will be the greatest of all time.

The goal of our joint efforts is to ensure the Organizing Committee’s effective preparations for Games in the following areas: integrated planning of the Games, human resources, risk management, financial planning and budgeting, and taxation.

Many of the projects that we have implemented with the Organizing Committee proved to be innovative for these types of events. One of our important decisions was to implement a concept of project-based organisation as a basis for the Organizing Committee’s activities at every stage. In addition, we have applied a new integrated client-oriented approach to preparations for the Games, which focuses on each group of people and each organisation directly or indirectly involved in the Games.

Application of the so-called “Sochi model”, which was created for coordination and management of multiple separate projects and activities, ensured the integration of the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee’s activities into combined and interrelated programmes and projects. They separately pursue different goals, but collectively they are aimed at implementing the overall strategy of the Games.

This model is a transferable “template” that ensures the necessary level of control and experience for organising major events and may be used in Russia and other countries in the future.
