Maxim Kandyba has extensive experience in legal consulting and specialises in civil, currency, banking and securities law, as well as derivatives, electricity, non-governmental pension funds and insurance.

Maxim’s clients include major Russian and foreign companies operating in the financial, industrial and energy and utilities sectors. Maxim has led advisory projects for financial institutions and corporate clients on transactions with securities and derivative financial instruments. Maxim has also consulted non-governmental pension funds on security issues and advised on the currency aspects of structuring exchange transactions.

Within the project on formation of the Central Depository Law, Maxim has led development of effective corporate governance systems for the Central Depository.

Before joining PwC, Maxim worked as chief legal counsel in a leading Russian bank, where he provided legal support on securities deals and addressed currency legislation issues.

Banking & Finance law practice led by Maxim is recommended by the Legal 500 international rating of law firms.

Maxim also leads projects for representing client interests in interactions with the tax authorities and during all stages of tax disputes. He and his team help develop the best possible strategy for handling each tax dispute to effectively defend client interests.

His specialisation includes (i) ongoing consulting on various tax matters, (ii) representing clients in the pre-trial (administrative) stages of tax disputes, drafting responses to the tax offices’ demands, drafting letters of disagreement (objections) to tax offices, involvement in the review of tax audit materials, etc., and (iii) representing clients in arbitrazh courts at all stages of court proceedings.
