The Healthy Sense Award presents the 2020 shortlist of nominees

The Healthy Sense Medical Literature Award 2020 announces the end of the popular vote stage of the competition in which more than 23,000 participants voted for their favourite books. In the next round, which lasts until 7 October 2020, the Award’s Expert Panel will select the winners among the books that performed the best in the popular vote round.

Organised by the Russian Ministry of Health, the Doctor TV channel and the PwC global network, the Healthy Sense Award aims to support the medical profession, raise awareness among the Russian population about biomedicine, promote healthy lifestyles and foster a health-conscious culture. Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Russian and foreign authors worked together with publishing houses to submit applications to participate in the Healthy Sense Award.

The Healthy Sense Award enables authors to share their experience, skills and knowledge with a wider audience and readers to learn about interesting and relevant books that have made an invaluable contribution to the development and popularisation of health and medicine.

“In the current environment, the Healthy Sense Medical Literature Award is even more pivotal and valuable. The pandemic has strongly affected healthcare and will definitely impact how the sector develops in the future. In addition to treatment, medical thought in general will change: we will see medical professionals bring forth new ideas and projects. Our award will be a part of it as it keeps the readers updated on the latest healthcare and well-being trends. Now we are starting the next round – selecting the winners in four nominations. The judges will vote for the best authors who contributed to raising public awareness of medical science”.

Igor Lotakov, Country Managing Partner, PwC Russia

From 6 July to 1 September, Crowdspace hosted the popular vote stage of the Healthy Sense Award. The public voting is now closed. More than 23,000 participants voted for their favourite books. The organisers have announced the start of the next round. The Expert Panel is charged with selecting the winner in each award category by 7 October 2020.

“We are happy to have Crowdspace as our traditional partner to provide an online platform for the popular vote stage and to ensure a fair and transparent procedure. This year, the number of participants has doubled as the award gains strength and popularity. We hope to build on this success in the future!”

Alexander Oslon, President of the Public Opinion foundation

The Healthy Sense Award is gaining interest. This year, there were 169 applications, including 146 books in the three main categories and 23 books in the “Best Idea for a Book” category. The popular vote helped identify the leaders in each category:

Health Recipe

  • Aleksandr Shishonin, Health Medicine vs Illness Medicine: the Other Way. How to Get Rid of Hypertension, Diabetes and Atherosclerosis (AST).
  • Doctor Regina, I Do Not Like Sweets (AST).
  • Olga Belokon, I, Woman. All The Things You Need to Know about Women’s Health, Contraception, Hormones and More (AST).

A Step Forward

  • Mikhail Paltsev and Igor Kvetnoy, A Journey to the Medicine World: From Antiquity to Modernity (Young Mother).
  • Pyotr Talantov, 0.05: Evidence-Based Medicine: from Magic to the Search for Immortality (Corpus).
  • Roksana Mukharyamova, Evidence-Based Medicine: a Healthy Person’s Checklist, or What To Do When Nothing Seems To Be the Problem (Bombora).

Aesculapius

  • Mikhail Leonov, The Healers of Novorossiysk: from Army Surgeon to Member of the Academy of Medical Sciences (Persona Press).
  • Neomar Nehayam, Terra Interna (Peremena-Perm).

The organisers have also prepared a special award, the Best Idea for a Book, for professionals and bloggers promoting healthy lifestyles and suggesting ideas for new books. The author of the best idea will be able to publish their book with the Bombora publishing house.

The Expert Panel consists of 11 representatives from the medical community, mass media and publishers to ensure an independent and professional assessment of the nominated books and to oversee and ensure the transparency of the selection process.

“The third round is the most important one as the readers’ and the medical professionals’ choices and preferences may differ. However, it is the Expert Panel that will be ultimately choose the winners. Thus, the Healthy Sense Award is not only a book contest but way of measuring the connections between readers and the expert community. We are ready to put the results to open debate”.

Evelina Zakamskaya, Editor in Chief, Doctor TV Channel

The selection process will end on 14 October 2020. In November, the organisers, members of the Expert Council, the judges and Board of Trustees will present the winners at the official awards ceremony.
