Applications are now being accepted for the 2021 Healthy Sense Award

10 March 2021

The Doctor TV channel, the Russian Ministry of Health, the Russian Ministry of Higher Education and Science, and PwC Russia have begun to accept applications for the annual Healthy Sense Award, which recognises the best medical writing. We would like to invite authors who write about health, healthy lifestyles, medicine, medical professionals as well as patients to participate in the award competition.

This year, we will be organising the Healthy Sense Award for the third time. The award was founded to raise awareness about biomedical research, support the medical profession, promote healthy lifestyles and foster a health-conscious culture.

“The popularisation of science goes beyond education, where literature plays an important role. In today’s world, an understanding of science is key to our personal security. The COVID-19 pandemic provides a vivid illustration. To navigate through the vast amounts of information about the virus, drugs and vaccines, you need a solid foundation to distinguish genuine knowledge from pseudoscience. For this reason, we ask that scientists, doctors and writers share their experiences and that readers choose good things to read.”

Valery Falkov, Russian Minister of Higher Education and Science

Authors, publishers, board members, jury members and professional healthcare and educational institutions may nominate books for the award. The Healthy Sense Award will select the best national and foreign authors in the following categories:

  • Recipe for Health: popular books for mass audiences about health and healthy lifestyles based on personal or professional experience;
  • A Step Forward: books about medical science, its capabilities and discoveries;
  • Aesculapian: memoirs and biographies of doctors;
  • Best Idea for a Book: for professionals and bloggers who promote healthy lifestyles and discuss important ideas that could be developed into books. The author of the best idea will be invited to publish a book with the BOMBORA publishing house.

The Healthy Sense Award Expert Council includes representatives from the medical community, mass media and publishers to ensure an independent and professional assessment of the books under review, as well as transparency in selecting the winners.

“The Healthy Sense Award has been a special PwC project for the past three years. Medical issues, healthcare workers and healthcare in general have been in the continuous spotlight of global media coverage. Today, like never before, we need high-quality, reliable, and duly verified and validated literature on human health. This is what the mission of the Healthy Sense Award is all about, and PwC and our partners will do our best to fulfil it.”

Igor Lotakov, Country Managing Partner, PwC Russia

Applications for the Healthy Sense Award will be accepted until 31 May 2020 and then be reviewed by the Healthy Sense Award Expert Council.

“We are expecting more applications this year, as COVID-19 continues to be a challenge, but also a source of new knowledge about viruses, vaccines and drugs. Along with the global scientific community, the public has become more interested in getting accurate data on healthy eating, metabolism and immunity. We would like to thank the Russian Ministry of Healthcare for supporting the authors and readers and welcome the Russian Ministry of Higher Education and Science, which has joined the award as a co-founder this year. People want to live to old age and manage their quality of life, and we are helping them to make it happen.”

Evelina Zakamskaya, Chief Editor, Doctor TV channel

The second round of the competition, a public vote, will be hosted via Crowdspace on the Healthy Sense Award official website. Based on the results of the public vote, a short list of books will be submitted to the jury before 19 September. From 20 September to 10 October, the jury—comprised of journalists, members of the professional medical community and public figures—will choose the winners.

The winners will be announced in October at the Healthy Sense Award ceremony in Moscow.
