EU cross-border carbon regulations: over EUR 50 per tonne of CO2

13 July, 2021

A package of EU draft laws on climate change, including a carbon border adjustment mechanism (the “CBAM”), is scheduled to be published on 14 July 2021. In early June, the draft law on the CBAM (the “Draft Law”) was made available in the public domain. The European Commission declined to comment on the Draft Law. Stories in the media have reported, based on sources in the European Commission, that work on the document is still in progress and some issues are yet to be finally resolved. Below, we present our analysis of the Draft Law, although it may be amended over the next few weeks.
